Stephen Kinney, DVMDr. Stephen Kinney, our Chief of Staff, is a Winthrop, Maine native. He attended the University of Maine at Orono and completed graduate work at Auburn University in Alabama. His veterinary training was at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was first in his graduating class in 1983.

Returning to Maine, Dr. Kinney had a mixed animal practice for 13 years before concentrating on small pets and household exotics. He has a special interest in shelter medicine and has served on the board of the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook for 15 years. He has also worked closely with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston for the last 25 years. A strong advocate for spaying and neutering, Dr. Kinney has performed over 2,500 spays and neuters in a single year!

He now practices at Auburn Animal Center, which he opened in May of 2011. In addition, he is the primary veterinarian for the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray, which allows him to work closely with a wide variety of Maine's beautiful wildlife.

Dr. Kinney resides in Poland Spring with three dogs, three cats and a goat. He owns and operates a golf course and also a bed and breakfast, which hosts weddings and other functions. In his free time, Dr. Kinney enjoys swimming, hiking and historic preservation.
